The Secret to an Overcoming Life , Micky Davis |
|
I was saved in September of 1994, during my third week of college at Humboldt State University. Hitherto, I had suffered life-long emptiness, feeble attempts at constructing meaning in my life, chronic back pain, and a recent episode of severe depression.
My first conference meeting with the local church was in May of 1995. There I received much revelation concerning the meaning of my Christian life, as well as its goal. In July of that same summer, I participated in a training on the Song of Songs. (It was based on messages by Witness Lee.) My experience in those seven days corresponded entirely to the first conference banner: “A lover of Christ should be one who is attracted by His love and drawn by Him in His sweetness to pursue after Him for full satisfaction.” Without hyperbole, that was the best week of my Christian life. Practically speaking, it was the start of it. In that summer I, like Moses, was not only brought into God's presence to be engaged to Him (Revelation 21:2), but I received a further revelation of the “tabernacle” (Exodus 25:1-9) which is God's building of the church (Ephesians 3:9-11). So hungry was I to eat the Lord through the Word that I never slept past 6 am, directing 30 minutes each morning to personal prayer and then to prayer with other brothers in Christ. Although no one imposed this practice on me, I wouldn't miss it for the world.
Notwithstanding a year of turmoil in 1998, I have not missed a single time with the Lord in the morning in 6 years! I have grown enormously due to my solid experience of Christ in this time. In fact, every experience of the Lord that followed has issued from this one practice. For example, during the Fall of 1995, my college GPA was elevated from a mere 2.8 to 4.0! I experienced an academic renaissance of sorts during the next few years, enabling me to transfer to UC Berkeley in the Fall of 1997, graduating with a history degree in the Spring of 2000. I have also been empowered to overcome many temptations and frustrations as long as I'm faithful to spend time each morning loving the Lord.
So, as a result of six years of being daily soaked and saturated with the Spirit and Word conveyed in this ministry, I, like Paul, can declare with all boldness that I love the Lord in incorruptibility (Ephesians 6:24). |
